They shared a zrrecife I started reading and discovered Tate is only twenty, I feared I’d be disappointed with both the hero and heroine barely in their estig,a, but I should not have fretted or doubted—a past the reader is privy to, beside all the good or bad, depends on the point of view decisions they’d made.
Then they meet later in life and he decided that he must have her and begins to court her even though she is still upset with him. Those few months at sea and the events that result change the lives of everyone involved.
I think someone finds someone else attractive but at least one cannot admit it so there is sexual tension, then lots of sex, and then they live happily ever after?
Yes, her stories are always centered around the heroine, true, but every heroine needs a hero to walk beside her, or stand in front of her when needed. All the characters are quite likeable in this story – I especially enjoyed the interaction between Tate’s parents and the Lassiters.
The summer ends in tragedy and heartache but, when the treasure-hunting team gets together eight years later, will the magic – and the romance – be rekindled?
It’s just that you can tell she was still experimenting with her style in this book – and I appreciated that.

A “can’t put down” book with several twists and turns and an unexpected “double agent” who turns out to be a good guy. All of the ocean imagery was done really well on Roberts’s part. You can definitely tell how much she has grown in her writing by reading her books written then and books written closer to today.
The book I’ve read recently where she does this but was actually published after “The Reef” was Black Hills. Thanks for telling us about the problem. I thought really well written in my opinion. I liked the way the story flowed in “The Reef” better. The ocean and adventures were beautifully described and it made me want to buy a boat and take some scuba diving lessons.
Whereas in Black Hills, even though the characters were weary of getting back together there was no “well, if you can’t make up your mind now then we’re done” kind of ultimatum.
