I’d recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about vastly different cultures along with interesting historical references to Japan’s involvement in World War II. ThrillerCrime novel.
Epic tomes were popular in the early 80s but Lustbader essentially stretches a compact pulp tale into something altogether less palatable by overwriting everything and dragging where lustbaader should be sprinting. It took a little longer than usual for me to get into this book, but once I did, there was no sto I received a free vzn of The Ninja by Eric Van Lustbader from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. He lives in the area of West Bay Bridge, where he meets the beautiful daughter of a man worth over million dollars. Other books in the series. The relationships, with their similarities and contrasts between Eastern and Western mind sets, was fascinating to see.
The title grabbed my interest, and I recognized the author as the guy who took over the Bourne franchise after Robert Ludlum’s death.
The action is so poorly described that most of the details were not decipherable by me, and I could literally get up and try to act them out.
Mailer and Updike are often derided as writing some of the worst sex scenes in print but they don’t even hold a candle to the mess that Van Lustbader contrives here.
As if the only similes left could be constructed with “as if”. Linnear grows up in post war Japan during a time of great upheaval, and this ever-changing environment leaves its mark on him.

Overall it’s a pretty one-dimensional novel, the author has hardly a couple of points reic write, but the repetition over the course of the lkstbader sort of irritates you towards the end. Sumbitch used it again. In fact, he’s the 1 user of the word, per Google, though perhaps it was a more popular word in the ’70s than today but not ninua popular as to have a dictionary entry in any of the common ones available today.
He was so not. And it raises more questions than answers. The stereotypes, conventions, tropes, etc. Van Lustbader once again handled a very charged topic with delicacy and respect. But then you notice the weird pounding of the same words over and over again: The flash backs are there to expand lustbadeer the life of Nicholas Linnear as he grows up learning martial arts and becoming able to understand the oriental way of life and thought process. While Nicholas Linnear is the main protagonist, there are other, supporting protagonists and antagonists that all play their roles well.

While the current state of affairs with the murders is interesting and well written on its own, Nick’s background is equally as fascinating as we learn more and more about the Eastern mindset as opposed the the Westernized version of life as Nick it lives now.
By around this time, Joe Wizan lustbadder, who had become the new head of Fox, put The Ninja and other projects that were given the green-lit into turnaround.
